Diabetes Diagnosis in Indore

Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of good diabetes care — here's how we test and what your numbers mean.

Diabetes Care

Diagnosing diabetes correctly — and catching it early — makes all the difference. At SEWA Centre, Dr. Abhyudaya Verma uses a complete diagnostic workup to confirm diabetes, identify the type, and check for early complications.

Tests we use

  • Fasting blood sugar (FBS) — sugar after an overnight fast.
  • HbA1c — your average blood sugar over 2–3 months; the gold standard for diagnosis and monitoring.
  • Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) — measures how your body handles a sugar load, important in pregnancy and borderline cases.
  • Post-meal sugar (PPBS) — sugar two hours after eating.

Understanding your numbers

Your endocrinologist interprets these together — not in isolation — alongside your symptoms and risk factors. A single value rarely tells the whole story, which is why expert assessment matters.

Complication screening at diagnosis

Newly diagnosed patients are screened for early effects on the eyes, kidneys, nerves and feet, plus blood pressure and cholesterol, so problems are caught and prevented early.

Frequently asked questions

What HbA1c level means diabetes?
Generally, an HbA1c of 6.5% or above indicates diabetes, 5.7–6.4% suggests prediabetes, and below 5.7% is normal — but your doctor confirms the diagnosis using the full picture.
Do I need to fast for a diabetes test?
Fasting blood sugar and OGTT require fasting (usually 8 hours). HbA1c does not need fasting and can be done at any time, which makes it convenient.
How often should diabetics get tested?
Most people with diabetes have HbA1c checked every 3 months until stable, then every 6 months, along with periodic complication screening.
